Been along to a CARVE? Curious to know more? Or maybe you're just intrigued to get an insight into the CARVE process before you join us at a workshop.
Well we have a treat for you: an introduction to of some of the tools we use during a CARVE class.
We picked the one with the weird name - the bastard file. This is the file we suggest you use to take the majority of wax away from your CARVE design - it's good at getting rid of lots of unwanted wax, fast. Particularly handy if you've got a fine design.
Plus, let us introduce you to the mandrel - a sort of reverse pencil sharpener that you'll use if you're carving a ring - it is the ring sizer tool.
If you want to learn the quirks and tips to use these tools - come to a CARVE class, we'll teach you to use them AND you'll get a shiny silver bit of jewellery that YOU made at the end of it. Win win.
Thank you to Jenni for the illustration!
